The Office of the Okanlomo Odùduwà has clarified its position on recent public discussions and media reports surrounding the conferment of the title Okanlomo of Yorubaland on Mr. Seyi Tinubu by the Alaafin of Oyo, stressing that its principal focus remains Yorùbá unity, cultural preservation and meaningful impact.
In a press statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, Chief Engr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Okanlomo Odùduwà, said he is not inclined to engage in debates or controversies relating to titles, personalities or inter-traditional matters, but is instead committed to purposeful leadership and the advancement of Yorùbá values.
According to the statement, Sanusi’s core mandate is the preservation, promotion and advancement of Yorùbá culture, unity and socio-economic development across generations and geographical boundaries.
The statement also commended the Ooni of Ifẹ̀, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ọjájá II), for what it described as uncommon statesmanship, noting that the monarch continues to prioritise cohesion, stability and collective progress of the Yorùbá race over divisive narratives.
Describing Sanusi as a bridge-builder and cultural custodian, the statement said his leadership philosophy is rooted in the Omoluabi ethos, which emphasises dialogue over discord, impact over noise, and legacy over momentary relevance.
It added that the Okanlomo Odùduwà believes Yorùbá greatness can only be sustained through unity, mutual respect among traditional institutions and collaborative efforts, rather than public confrontations or competing narratives.
The statement further reaffirmed Sanusi’s commitment to cultural diplomacy, youth empowerment, diaspora reconnection, and economic and educational advancement within Yorùbáland.
“He remains steadfast in working with all well-meaning stakeholders for the collective good of the Yorùbá people, irrespective of titles or personal distinctions,” the statement read.
Calling for calm reflection and cultural responsibility, the Office of the Okanlomo Odùduwà urged stakeholders to embrace unity and avoid contention.
The statement was signed by Williams Abiola, Personal Media Aide to Chief Engr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi, Okanlomo Odùduwà.
