Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, the  President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is dead

According to a Statement released by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu on behalf of the family,  Chief Iwuanyanwu  died in Abuja on Thursday, July 25, 2024 after a brief illness,

Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who held the traditional title of Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo, was an Engineer by training, an industrialist, businessman, and the founder of the Champion Group of Newspapers.

Aged 82, Iwuanyanwu was until his death also the President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.

The House of Representatives has extended their heartfelt condolences to Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, his family, the people and Government of Imo State, Ndigbo worldwide,

The reps while mourning the passing of Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu is distinguished politician, seasoned engineer, business magnate, and philanthropist, was a towering figure in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.

His leadership as the 11th President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was marked by unwavering commitment to the welfare and interests of the Igbo nation. Under his guidance, the apex socio-cultural organisation saw significant advancements in representation and empowerment.

Throughout his career, Chief Iwuanyanwu demonstrated strategic vision as a prominent Igbo Leader of Thought that enriched the region and Nigeria at large. His contributions extended beyond his role in Ohanaeze; as he was a notable figure in sports administration, media, and politics, and a three-time presidential aspirant.

In reaction to this profound loss, the South East Caucus of the House of Representatives expressed deep sorrow. Rep. Igariwey Iduma Enwo, Chairman of the Caucus, described Chief Iwuanyanwu as a rare and consummate businessman who made immense contributions to Nigeria’s socio-political and economic development.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, praised Chief Iwuanyanwu as one of the brightest stars from the South East region, noting his significant impact in business, political leadership, and community development. “Nigeria will miss an entrepreneur who invested in the nation, creating jobs and reducing unemployment, while others moved their funds abroad. Chief Iwuanyanwu was indeed an institution of our history,” he stated.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, expressed deep condolences, describing Chief Iwuanyanwu’s death as both shocking and painful. “Chief Iwuanyanwu was an elder statesman and a pan-Nigerian who used his leadership of Ohanaeze to seek peace and stability in Nigeria,” Speaker Abbas added
