The African Paralympic Committee (APC) has given the green light for Ogun State to host the inaugural West Africa Zone A & B Para Games, following a comprehensive inspection of the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta and other sports facilities across the state.

Led by APC President Mr. Samson Deen, the delegation, commended the Ogun State Government for its significant investment in sports infrastructure, particularly for athletes with disabilities. Speaking after touring the facilities, Mr. Deen expressed confidence in the state’s readiness to host the prestigious regional event, scheduled to take place from September 14 to 20, 2025.

“I am highly impressed with what I’ve seen,” Deen said. “The MKO Abiola Sports Arena is more than qualified to host this competition. The facilities are in excellent condition, and only minor touches are required to bring everything to full readiness. I am happy this venue has been chosen for the event.”

The APC team inspected key components of the MKO Abiola complex, including the tartan track, football pitch, swimming pool, and lawn tennis courts. They also visited the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja.

Deen emphasized that the final confirmation of Abeokuta as host city remains subject to the approval of Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun but noted that discussions with the governor are expected to be positive. “We are optimistic that the Governor will support this initiative. It will bring both sporting excellence and economic activity to Ogun,” he said.

Highlighting the broader impact of the games, Deen added that the event would stimulate the local economy, particularly the business community in Ogun State, and inspire inclusion and participation in para-sports across the region.

The West Africa Zone A & B Para Games will bring together athletes from across the sub-region, promoting unity, athletic excellence, and inclusivity for persons with disabilities.
