The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), through the Office of the National Senate Clerk, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to Africa and the global community.

In an official press statement signed by the National Senate Clerk, Sen. Akinsola Prisca, NAOSS highlighted several milestones under Dr. Adesina’s leadership at the AfDB. These include the historic increase of the Bank’s general capital from $93 billion to $208 billion — the largest in its history — as well as the launch of a landmark $3 billion COVID-19 social bond and a $10 billion crisis response facility during the pandemic.

Dr. Adesina’s leadership has earned AfDB global accolades, with the institution being named the Best Multilateral Financial Institution in the World by Global Finance in 2022, and the Most Transparent Financial Institution in the World in 2023.

“As indigenes of Ogun State, we are happy to draw inspiration from him,” the statement reads. “He has been consistent in his diligence, making us shine on the global stage and giving us a great spot on the world map.”

NAOSS also quoted one of Dr. Adesina’s powerful messages: “To stay in power, African leaders must provide power. Like the hidden potential of rough diamonds, we must work to fully unlock Africa’s potential; Africa must sparkle.”

Sen. Prisca described Dr. Adesina as a beacon of excellence whose hard work and dedication remain a source of inspiration to all Ogun State indigenes.
