Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbomoso have rejected what they described as attempts by some elements to organise a congress and inaugurate factional executive members in the area and other parts of Oyo State.
The party leaders warned that any move to constitute a parallel executive would not be recognised, insisting that the PDP structure in the state remains united and loyal to the leadership of Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, the stakeholders said they were aware of clandestine plans by certain individuals to conduct unauthorised congresses aimed at installing factional party executives.
“We are aware of the clandestine move by some elements to hold parallel congress and inaugurate factional executive members in Ogbomoso and other parts of the state,” the statement read.
The stakeholders stressed that such actions could destabilise the party if not properly addressed, noting that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has continued to enjoy relative unity under the leadership of Governor Makinde.
They reiterated their unwavering support for the governor, describing him as the leader of the party in the state whose leadership has strengthened the PDP and positioned it for greater electoral success.
According to them, “We are solidly loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership and we will not accept any form of factional executive in Oyo State.”
The stakeholders also warned that saboteurs who have allegedly collected money from their paymasters to destabilise the relative peace within the party and betray its collective interest should be ready to face the consequences of their actions.
They urged such individuals to stay away from any activity capable of disrupting the unity and stability currently being enjoyed within the party.
The stakeholders further called on party members to remain calm and resist any attempt to divide the party, while reaffirming their commitment to the stability and progress of the PDP in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State.
