Students of politics are beginning to ponder the discordant notes heard through conduct during the last Congresses of the APC held across NIGERIA on Saturday.
The party position officially favoured consensus which according to it should be confirmed by voice votes to avoid rancour. But when this party ideal could not be achieved in some localities option A4 was adopted.
In some other places parallel Congresses were held. Example was the case in Ilorin where Lai Mohammed, a federal minister and the state governor of Kwara had separate Congresses. Same was said of Alao Akala a former state governor and the serving sports minister Sunday Dare in Oyo having separate Congresses. Some schools of thought believe that the ground as it were is being prepared for future litigations because the embers of disunity being fanned at the Congress level will naturally catch fire in the days ahead as elements of today’s disunity will be factored into whatever issues may arise in the future and render the party asunder or into factions that will affect smooth governance.
But another school of thought is of the opinion that these events are one sure way of strengthening our democracy through litigations. It is said that the hoopla about the Supreme Court judgement on Ondo governorship elections whether considered or not in decision making by the national APC hierarchy will still reverbrate in the days to come. Since Oshiomole could not be brought back, stopping the Buni Congress arrangements as opined by some may spell disaster.
The ward Congresses may have for now been concluded but this bedrock mechanism of party politics operations a la APC will exert it’s import in the days ahead.
