The Chairman, House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Hon Segun Odebunmi and his Senate Counterpart, Senator Danladi Sankara, met recently to advocate for improved funding for the Ministry of information and agencies under her watch in order to increase her capacity for service delivery.
The elaborate meeting also captured strategies for combating growing youth unemployment by repositioning the ministry and her agencies to accommodate new technical recruit drawn largely from the youths via new and improved responsibilities.
In his remarks, Hon. Odebunmi insisted that in any successful economy, information, motivation and education are everything and that the ministry of information must take the lead in this regard.
He opined that as committees of the House, they have a sacrosanct duty to review the nature and assesses the success of policies and programmes that are aimed at reducing or resolving unemployment, underemployment and marginalization of youths in our country.
‘It was in the course of this oversight that it was discovered that the ministry of information and essentially her agencies are poorly equipped and funded in a way that inhibit service delivery”.
