This year’s Odun Oba Onpetu will start on the 2nd and end on the 11th of March, 2022, it has been revealed.
According to a press release signed by the Onpetu of Ijeru Kingdom, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran Lagbami Osekun III, and obtained by national Insight, the traditional ruler would go into seclusion for 7 days between March 2 and 8, after which a two-day prayer revival between the 9th and 10th, 4 to 6 pm daily, will hold at Orile Oje, the ancestral home of the Olu Oje people.
The release further states that the grand finale is slated for the 11th of March starting from 10am at the Altar of Praise in Orile Oje.
Recalls this will be followed by a return to the palace in motorcade with the traditional ruler however disembarking from his car to customarily cover the last stretch to the palace on foot amid fanfare. A grand reception and entertainment will come up afterwards.
The programme at the palace is usually a moment of merriment, which often includes paying of homage to the monarch by the Onpetu ruling houses, traditional displays and music and lots of entertainments.
It’s added, “On this note, Oba Onpetu cordially invites you to this yearly festival. Your presence and contributions will be highly appreciated towards the success of the festival.
“We covet your prayers during the period of seclusion as I seek the face of God for the land and the people.”
The occasion is expected to be graced by several important dignitaries including clergymen.
The festival was formerly known as Odoje festival. It’s the reigning Oba that effected the name change to reflect his Christianity faith and none attachment to ritualistic traditional festivals.
