The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the South West, Oyo State Chapeter of the Union and Freelance and Independence Broadcaster Association of Nigeria FIBAN have condemned the attack on the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Amuludun FM in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The unions in their statements called on the Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident and apprehend those responsible for the attack on the media outfit.
In a statement released by the Vice President of the union in the zone, Comrade Cosmas Olalekan Oni and the Zonal Secretary, Bamigbola Gbolagunte the union tasked the security agencies to get to the root of the unfortunate incident.
The Union expressed worry over the incident and wondered why media organization should be the target of attack by hoodlums.
The union however commended the state police command for the prompt response at arresting the situation and called for more proactive measures by the police.
Similarly, the Oyo State Council in a statement signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Comrades Ademola Babalola and Sola Oladapo respectively, tasked the State Police Commmand to immediately swing into action and effect the arrest of the perpetrators to serve as deterrent to others.
It regretted that such heinous crime could send jitters than the spines of hapless Journalists and expose them to danger of monumental proportion.
It therefore called on the security agencies to unravel the circumstances that led to such unbridled and mindless attacks on a media facility with a view of bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Stressing that an injury to one is an injury to all, the NUJ condemned the attack and described same as wicked, lawless and uncivilised, adding that, “immediate arrest of the culprits would go a long way in restoring sanity to the area and ultimately allow staffers in the corporation to carry out their duties in a sane and safer environment forthwith.”
The Union therefore sympathised with the management of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and colleagues who were affected by the attack, admonishing them to be steadfast
it also called on the Oyo State Government to support the station and those who either lost their valuables or had their vehicles vandalised while the senseless attack lasted.
Also the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) Oyo State Chapter through the Chairman, Comrade ‘Seun Awodele has condemned in its totality the invasion by suspected hoodlums on the facility of Radio Nigeria’s Amuludun FM, Moniya, Ibadan.
According to the release by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Amb. Taiwo Oguntoye which stated the displeasure of Oyo FIBAN on the unpalatable news of the invasion where valuables and properties of the corporation’s staffs were vandalised on Saturday.
In the statement, the Association however charged the Commissioner of Police to do the needful by effecting the arrest of the perpetrators of the evil acts on broadcasters and prosecute accordingly.
Comrade Awodele was quoted ” we demand that this evil action on broadcasters should be investigated and the outcome to be made public so as to serve as a deterrent for other criminal elements that as broadcasters we are the mouth piece of the public and should be treated with maximum respect in the discharge of our duties”.
Oyo FIBAN also called on Oyo State government to kindly extend their goodwill support for the station and the broadcasters that were affected by the invasion.
While sympathising with the entire management and staff of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) on the invasion, Comrade Awodele also admonished security agencies in the state to help secure the lives and properties of Broadcasters
