The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has deployed 500 personnel to provide security during the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The coronation is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, with a grand reception at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium. The weeklong ceremonies, which began on September 22, will run until October 3, 2025.
The Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, approved the deployment to ensure law and order, protection of lives and property, and peaceful celebrations throughout the coronation activities.
According to the Oyo State Commandant, Augustine Padonu, the deployed personnel are drawn from specialized units, including the Armed Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Intelligence and Investigation Department. He noted that security coverage would extend to Mapo Hall, the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, the Olubadan Palace, and other strategic locations in Ibadanland.
“Our personnel are strategically positioned to secure all venues and routes associated with the coronation events, including the cultural fiesta, lecture, coronation exercise, and thanksgiving service. We are working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free ceremony that reflects the cultural grandeur of Ibadanland,” Padonu said.
The Corps has also put in place crowd control measures, traffic management plans, and surveillance operations to manage risks during the event, which will be attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, top government officials, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from across Nigeria.
The NSCDC urged residents and attendees to cooperate with security operatives, obey safety protocols, and promptly report any suspicious activities.
