The Nigeria Police Force has approved the appointment of the National Coordinator, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), ACP Olabisi Okuwobi, as the pioneer chairperson of Nigeria Police Frisbee (Flying Disc) Association.
In an appointment letter signed by the Director of Sports, DCP Osifo Emefile, ACP Okuwobi has been empowered to assume the responsibilities associated with the position in order to move the association forward.
With her new appointment, the National Coordinator will constitute the Association’s Board in line with provided guidelines.
The Director of Sports, who congratulated ACP Okuwobi on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and the entire police sports family, enjoined her to move the sport to greater heights with her new position.
A frisbee is a flying disc used for recreation and sports and typically made of plastic with a curved shape, gliding through the air when thrown.
Frisbee is a new game in Nigeria, and it was learnt that playing it could improve cardiovascular health and coordination.
Frisbee games also encourage teamwork, communication, and social interaction, and is popular among people of all ages.
According to ACP Okuwobi, POCACOV’s use of frisbees as an anti-crime sport is an innovative approach to engage youths and promote positive values.
Aside youth engagement, ACP Okuwobi said that frisbee games would also provide a positive outlet for energy and creativity, as well as promote teamwork, communication, sportsmanship and essential life skills.
She added that Frisbee games could foster community spirit and social connections among participants, thereby providing a positive alternative to crime and anti-social behaviour.
“By leveraging frisbees as an anti-crime sport, POCACOV can create a positive, engaging, and empowering experience for youths, ultimately contributing to safer and more cohesive communities,” ACP Okuwobi stated.
