The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has dismissed claims circulating in a viral video alleging that its fuel does not last, describing the assertion as false, misleading, and lacking any scientific basis.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., said the claims originated from unverified and amateur research that fails to meet professional standards of accuracy and credibility.
“NNPC Ltd. assures Nigerians that its fuel is carefully formulated with high-quality composition, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers,” the statement read.
The company further clarified that a significant portion of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos—where the video was allegedly created—comes from the Dangote Refinery, a strategic partner committed to local production and energy security. The Dangote Refinery, NNPC noted, adheres to strict industry standards, ensuring the quality and reliability of its petroleum products.
Describing the video as a deliberate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and damage the company’s reputation, NNPC Ltd. warned that it would take legal action against individuals or groups spreading falsehoods about its operations.
The company urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading content and rely on verified sources for accurate information. NNPC Ltd. reaffirmed its commitment to fuel availability, affordability, and quality, in line with global industry standards.
