NNPC Limited and Dangote Group have renewed their commitment to a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, enhancing domestic refining capacity and driving industrial growth.

The renewed alliance was reaffirmed on Friday when the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, led a delegation of the company’s management on a visit to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
The high-level meeting, which included a guided tour of the 650,000 barrels per day facility, focused on deepening operational and commercial ties between NNPC Ltd and the refinery owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
Ojulari commended Dangote for his vision and resilience in delivering what is regarded as Africa’s largest single-train refinery, describing the project as a landmark achievement that positions Nigeria as a major downstream petroleum hub on the continent.
He said the strategic alliance would unlock synergies across assets, infrastructure, capital and markets, while also providing clearer visibility into business engagements between both organisations.
According to him, the partnership holds vast potential beyond refining, with opportunities to expand collaboration into upstream operations, crude trading, shipping, and gas supply.
Ojulari also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms in the oil and gas sector, noting that policy clarity and investor-friendly measures have created an enabling environment for large-scale investments and partnerships.
Speaking during the visit, Dangote said the synergy between both entities would ultimately benefit Nigerians through economies of scale and value creation across markets.
He stressed that collaboration rather than competition would strengthen Nigeria’s energy ecosystem and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
NNPC Ltd currently holds a 7.25 per cent equity stake in the Dangote Refinery, a move described as a strategic investment aligned with the company’s downstream growth objectives and commitment to boosting local refining capacity.
Both parties reaffirmed their resolve to deepen cooperation in pursuit of shared goals centred on energy security, economic prosperity and sustainable national development.
