A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Ph.D. has lauded Nigerian workers for their immense and consistent contributions to the development of Nigeria.
Omisore in statement to mark this year’s Workers Day celebrations, commended the workers for their patriotism and commitment to the nation “despite the unsavoury situations many of them have had to endure in recent times as a result of the nation’s current  economic turbulence.”
According to the former Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, nothing else “demonstrates our compatriots’  (the Nigerian workers) sense of patriotism in the decorous manner they have endured hardship in spite of the paltry remunerations  they receive for their hard work.
“This sacrifice is not limited to the workers in the office of the president, governors, senators or in our ministries and organised private sector. It embraces the man in the street, who hawks the little sachet water that has sustained the lives of the citizenry.  I salute your courage. I salute your conscientious spirit,” Omisore stated, urging the workers to continue in their patriotic quests.
Speaking on the plight of the workers of Osun State who have had to make perhaps the largest sacrifice having been denied salaries for many months, the former deputy governor enjoined them to take heart as the hour of their liberation and the total liberation of the state is very near.
“We should continue to  work for the progress of Osun State as you have always done. We should not succumb to despondency. Osun State is our pride. God will liberate our state from the buccaneers from Lagos State,”
he stated, advising them to be peaceful and law abiding as they about their businesses.
While giving his full support to the workers’ agitation for a review of the minimum wage, he called on the Federal Government to ensure that Nigerian workers “are adequately renumerated as the current economic realities do not support the meagre salaries our workers are paid”,  expressing optimism that Nigeria as a nation would get over its protracted economic challenges .
