Villarreal winger, Samuel Chukwueze has been nominated for the maiden edition of the LaLiga African player of the season award.
The award which seeks to recognize the value and importance of African footballers playing in La liga. Hence, as there are more than 25 footballers plying there trade in Laliga.
While speaking on the maiden award,
Marcos Pellegrin, Laliga Southern African Managing Director, said
“We were blown away by the response from African football fans to the launch of the African MVP award this season.
“African audiences have grown in their Viewership and support of Laliga over the years,buoyed by the performances of some of the continent’s fantastic footballers in the league.
“This competition is a fitting tribute to the growth and stature of the African market to Laliga and we encourage fans to participate in their numbers to vote for their standout African Laliga Santander star this season,”
However, public voting for the Laliga African MVP award will go live on May 10 on LaLiga’s social media platforms. It will be launched by another Nigerian, the former Super Eagles and Real Mallorca Star Mutiu Adepoju.
The competition will come to a close on May 22 and fans who took part in voting can also win LaLiga jerseys and merchandise.
Recall that La Liga presented the African player of the mid-season award to Moroccan goalkeeper, Sevilla’s Yassine ‘Bono’ Bounou in January after he was voted the winner.
