Joseph Tegbe, the Director-General and global liaison for the Nigeria-China strategic partnership has joined other notable Nigerians in mourning the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a distinguished scholar, politician, and former Governor of Oyo State, who died just days to his 90th birthday.
In a heartfelt tribute, Tegbe described Dr. Olunloyo as an iconic figure in the history of Oyo State and Western Nigeria, whose life and achievements left an enduring legacy.
He extended his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the Oyo State Governor, and the people of Ibadan, noting that the late technocrat’s contributions to both politics and academia remain a source of inspiration.
“Being a renowned scholar and the first Ibadan man to be elected Governor, Dr. Olunloyo’s significant contributions to Nigerian politics and academia have left an indelible mark. His brilliance and leadership continue to inspire future generations,” Tegbe said.
He added that while the loss is painful, comfort can be found in the remarkable life Olunloyo lived and the positive impact he had on society.
“It is my prayer that his family, friends, and loved ones find solace in the legacy he leaves behind,” he concluded.
Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, who briefly governed Oyo State in the Second Republic, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, 2025.
