Professor Adeolu Akande, Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), has obtained the N50million Expression of Interest and Nomination Form for the 2023 Governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Otu, Oke Ogun-born politician, the first and only aspirant outside of Ibadan, thus brings the number of aspirants who have collected the Oyo APC governorship Nomination Forms to six.
Akande, a professor of Comparative Politics and a lawyer, is a seasoned journalist who has variously worked as Editor in Chief of Omega Weekly (1997), Acting Editor of Sunday Tribune (1996) and Regional Editor (South West) of Punch Newspapers (1993).
A former lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan (1997), Akande presently teaches at the Igbinedion University, Okada, where he is also the Director, Centre for Presidential Studies.
He served as Deputy Chief Press Secretary and Special Assistant (Research and Communication Strategies) to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (2001 and 2003 respectively) and he was also a Chief of Staff to the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Akande was, in 2018, chairman of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and has since 2020, been the chairman of the NCC.
Professor Akande has featured and served in different capacities in every presidential election in the country since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
