The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out decisive airstrikes in Tungar Kara, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in a bid to curtail banditry and restore peace in the region.
The operation successfully neutralized several bandits and facilitated the rescue of kidnap victims.
However, the NAF has expressed serious concern over reports suggesting possible civilian casualties during the operation.
In a statement released on January 12, 2025, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Fakinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information, emphasized the Force’s commitment to protecting all Nigerians, adding that a full-scale investigation has been launched to verify the claims.
“The Nigerian Air Force is a responsible and professional custodian of airpower, and we place immense value on the life of every Nigerian,” Fakinboyewa stated. He assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made known to ensure transparency and maintain public trust.
While reaffirming its dedication to combating banditry in the North West, the NAF pledged to work closely with relevant authorities to uncover the facts and take appropriate measures to prevent civilian harm in future operations.
This development underscores the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara and the broader North West region, where banditry and kidnappings have caused widespread instability. The NAF’s assurance of prioritizing civilian safety is expected to provide some reassurance to affected communities.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue, with the NAF reiterating its goal of restoring lasting peace to the troubled region.
