The member representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Adedeji Olajide Stanley has said the supplementary budget presented to the National Assembly will stimulate the economy and address some of the challenges the country is battling with as a result of the subsidy removal.

The Federal Government on Monday approved a N2.18tn supplementary budget for the 2023 fiscal year to cover additional spending in defence, works as well as welfare packages such as wage awards and conditional cash transfers agreed with the Organised Labour.

The lawmaker while making his contributions on the supplementary budget during plenary on Tuesday lauded the Executive arm of government for listening to the yearnings of Nigerians.

Odidiomo noted that the budget underscored its critical role in addressing the pressing issue of hunger in the country adding that it will assist in the area of economic recovery. His words:

“I want to lend my voice to the all-important supplementary budget.

“We need not deny the existence of hunger in the land, and this budget will directly address some of these issues.”

The lawmaker extended his gratitude to the Executive for heeding the calls of the Nigerian people and responding to the hunger crisis with a tailored budget.

“There is hunger in the land, and the Executive has demonstrated the sensitivity to craft a budget aimed at tackling this challenge.”

Drawing a global parallel, the House Committee Chairman on ICT and Cybersecurity emphasized that even the United States of America had initiated a stimulus plan to mitigate the effects of the global recession.

“Right now, the United States of America has an ongoing stimulus effort to address the effects of the global recession.

“Therefore, I firmly believe that this supplementary budget is a commendable move that will address immediate concerns and help our citizens recover from their current hardships.”

In his closing remarks, Honorable Odidiomo offered a prayer for unity among his fellow colleagues in the Green Chamber hoping that they would lend their support to this crucial supplementary budget. He emphasized the importance of a united effort in addressing the current challenges.
