Kwankwaso announced his resignation in a statement issued on Monday, describing the decision as one taken “with a heavy heart,” and confirming his exit as a member of the Kano State Executive Council.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the state, noting that he cherished the experiences and lessons gained during his tenure.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he said.
The former commissioner also offered prayers for the continued welfare of youths in the state, urging that they receive sustained attention and support.
“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve. I hope for the best for our sports development programmes and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come,” he stated.
Kwankwaso further prayed for continued divine blessings on Kano State, while wishing the government and people of the state well.
Similarly, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Laminu Rabiu, announced his resignation in a letter dated January 25, 2026, addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In the letter, Laminu Rabiu said his decision was informed by recent political developments within his party which necessitated a realignment of his focus and commitments.
He disclosed that as a devoted member of the Kwankwasiyya movement, he remains loyal to its leader, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and committed to the ideals and objectives of the political movement.
“In the interest of preserving unity within our party and advancing its goals, I find it necessary to step aside from this appointment to fully support the strategic direction required in the current political landscape,” he said.
Laminu Rabiu expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the trust reposed in him to lead the Pilgrims Welfare Board, describing it as an honour to serve, and said he was proud of the progress recorded in advancing pilgrims’ welfare and strengthening the board’s operations.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government has not issued an official reaction to the two resignations.
