A non Governmental Organization NGO, Modinat Temitope Adeyemo Foundation (MODTA) has donated cash and food items to students of Federal School of Statistics (FSS), Ibadan who were affected by the recent Shasha market mayhem.
The items including cash, 10 cartons of noodles and two bags of rice were handed over to the students on Thursday at the institution’s premises located along Shasha road in Ibadan.
The mayhem which erupted on Feb. 11 had affected some students of the institution who resides in Shasha due to its proximity to the institution.
Mrs. Modinat Adeyemo, the founder of MODTA, described the unfortunate incident as very sad, praying such never occurred again.
Adeyemo said that the essence of the donation was to cushion the effect of mayhem on the affected students, calling on other well-meaning Nigerians to help the students.
“I saw it in the news and I was seriously touched. I read that some of you were affected and I decided to do something, no matter how little.
“In cases like this, students move out enmasse to react, but you never did such which means you are peace lovers.I love you people because you are peace lovers.
“Whatsoever you do to assist your brothers, you do it to God. And whatever I do to you, I do it to God,’’ she said.
Mr Ezekiel Essien, the Student Union President of the institution, appreciated Adeyemo for extending the gesture to his colleagues.
He commended Adeyemo for considering their plight and rising up to the occasion by donating palliatives which would go a long way.
“Since the incident happened, we are yet to see anyone bring such palliatives to us, at least to raise our hope again. You are the first person and we really appreciate it.
“Even the state government is yet to give such, expect some northern governors who distributed N100,000 each to affected people from their respective states,’’ he said.
Essien called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Adeyemo’s gesture, urging them to always be kind to those in need
