A 55 years old man identified as Mr. Oloye Kehinde Charles has fled the Country over alleged threat to life sequel to his involvement in the practice of homosexualism, an act that attracts a severe punishment as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Charles who resides at No 1 Alagbayun area of Akobo in Lagelu local government area was said to have been caught in the act on 14th February 2023.
Finding reveals that aside the practice being outlawed, it is against the customs and traditions of the Yorubaland.
This development prompted the decision of the people living in the area to seek his arrest and prosecution.
Also, some youths in the community had even threatened to lynch him to serve as deterrent to others who are indulge in the same practice.
This development, as reliably gathered forced him to flee the country after he reported the attempted mob action against him at Iyaganku Police station.
He was advised at the Police station to be mindful of the kinds of friends that he associates with, and, also, to stay away from any act that has the semblance of homosexuality that the Act is prohibited in Nigeria.
Sources disclosed that Mr Oloye confided in some people in his neighborhood that he is addicted to the practice and that he would rather relocate to a place where the practice is acceptable than continue to hide his true picture of the practice, after having relocated to different cities in Nigeria seeking hideouts.
In his words, “I have been living in fear for a long time and it’s affecting my job and family”.
He continued, ” So I had to take hard decision to leave the country (Nigeria) when it became clear to me that there is no hiding place for me in Nigeria, for the practice of homosexuality.
