Chairman and CEO of McDons Skye Hotel, Owerri, Dr. Modestus Chigo Akweke, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent inauguration of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) and the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing it as a bold step towards reviving Nigeria’s economy and attracting foreign investments.
Dr. Akweke, in a statement on Saturday, noted that the formation of the non-statutory council comprising renowned economists and technical experts from diverse sectors is a much-needed intervention to drive sound economic policies and improve investor confidence in the country.
“This is the kind of independent and visionary council we need—one that is composed of economic and technical minds capable of crafting strategies to turn around our economy and position Nigeria as a preferred destination for global investment,” he stated.
Dr. Akweke further hailed the participation of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, Director General of PEAC/PFIPC, and his team at the recent Future Hospitality Summit Africa (FHS Africa) held in Cape Town, South Africa. He noted that their presence signaled Nigeria’s renewed commitment to engaging global investors and promoting government policies designed to foster economic growth.
“The Director General’s engagements with key international stakeholders during the summit, particularly within the hospitality sector, demonstrate the council’s proactive approach. I am optimistic that these discussions will soon yield positive outcomes for Nigeria’s domestic and global economic positioning,” Akweke added.
According to him, the council’s participation at FHS Africa also reflects a strategic focus on the hospitality and tourism industry, a sector he believes holds vast potential for job creation, GDP growth, and foreign exchange earnings.
“They have set the ball rolling by creating a supportive environment for foreign investors, ensuring that Nigeria offers equal protection and incentives to both local and international businesses,” he concluded.
The Future Hospitality Summit Africa serves as a leading platform for shaping the future of hospitality investment on the continent, bringing together industry visionaries and innovators to drive transformation in tourism and infrastructure.
Dr. Akweke called on stakeholders across the public and private sectors to support the efforts of PEAC/PFIPC, urging continued collaboration in creating a resilient and investor-friendly Nigerian economy.
