Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Biodun Aikomo, has declared that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has performed excellently in promoting the rule of law, strengthening justice delivery, and establishing institutions that will sustain good governance in the state.
Aikomo made the disclosure on Friday during the Omituntun 2.0 Inter-Ministerial Briefing held at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
He highlighted the governor’s efforts in reinforcing the Ministry of Justice and its various departments, which cover civil litigation, mediation, public prosecution, legal drafting, agreements, and tackling gender-based violence.
“In his second-term roadmap, Governor Makinde devoted a section to the rule of law, and he has fulfilled every promise in that regard,” Aikomo stated. “From the drafting of Executive Orders and Bills to the day-to-day handling of legal processes across all 33 local government areas, the Ministry of Justice has been at the core of governance.”
He disclosed that 30 out of 40 newly approved state counsels have been appointed, with plans to recruit the remaining 10 to meet increasing demands for legal representation and policy implementation.
Among major milestones, the Commissioner mentioned the drafting of impactful Executive Orders such as Executive Order 001 of 2024 on the safe handling and storage of harmful substances and another focusing on the protection of mining communities.
He further noted the establishment of key agencies like the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED), the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, and the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA), as fulfilment of Governor Makinde’s commitment to institutional sustainability and civic engagement.
“The law is the heart of government. Every ministry and department operates within legal frameworks, and the Ministry of Justice ensures due process is followed,” Aikomo added. “With over 10 million residents and thousands of ongoing legal cases, our lawyers are working across the state from Ibadan to Igbo Ora and Kishi daily.”
Also present at the briefing were the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor-General of the state, Mrs. Are Oluwabunmi; Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Abiola Najeem; and other top officials of the Ministry of Justice.
