Oyo State Governor, ’Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, as the institution convoked 3,650 graduands at its 39th Convocation Ceremony on Friday.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, the governor urged the institution’s management to explore internal power generation solutions to reduce reliance on external electricity sources. He emphasized that sustainable energy would enhance efficiency within the institution.
Makinde also announced plans to constitute a governing council for the institution soon, while promising to rehabilitate major roads within the campus to improve vehicular movement.
He commended the school’s management for maintaining a stable academic calendar, free from strikes and disruptions, and encouraged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution.
“I advise the graduands to apply the knowledge acquired here to become useful citizens of Nigeria and create jobs for themselves rather than relying on white-collar jobs,” he said.
The acting Rector of the institution, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, disclosed that the graduating students were drawn from five faculties: 1,669 from Business and Communication Studies, 571 from Science, 574 from Engineering, 333 from Environmental Studies, and 503 from Financial Studies.
He highlighted his administration’s commitment to prompt salary and pension payments, adherence to the academic calendar, and fostering peaceful interactions among students, staff, and unions.
Dignitaries at the event included former Deputy Governor Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Hon. Muhammad Fadeyi, Commissioner for Public Works Prof. Dahud Sangodoyin, and the Chairman of the Governing Board of LAUTECH, Prof. Ayodeji Omole.
