Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed the possibility of Nigeria becoming a one-party state, insisting that the country’s ethnic diversity makes such an arrangement unworkable.
Makinde stated this on Saturday in Yola during a civic reception held in honour of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, which also featured the unveiling of the Margi National Attire.
“In the history that was read, you can see that Nigeria is made up of several nations. As for those who are trying to push us into a one-party state, this is why it will not happen,” he said.
The governor commended Fintiri for his political journey, noting that his rise through the ranks—from Minority Leader in the Adamawa State House of Assembly to Governor—demonstrated capacity and the potential for greater achievements if given more opportunities.
Makinde praised the Margi Nation for celebrating one of their own, describing the honour as significant given that “prophets are not always recognised in their own homes.”
Also present at the event was Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, who announced that he and Makinde would support the Margi National Attire initiative through personal donations.
The event drew dignitaries and community leaders who gathered to celebrate Governor Fintiri’s contributions to the state and the Margi community.
