Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Friday inaugurated the Governing Councils for two of the state-owned institutions—Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan—reaffirming that his administration’s commitment to education is yielding tangible results.
The governor, who spoke at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, noted that when he assumed office in 2019, Oyo State had only “one and a half universities”—with LAUTECH then jointly owned by Oyo and Osun States. He said the state now solely owns three thriving universities, including the recently upgraded Emmanuel Alayande University of Education.
“When we talked about sole ownership for LAUTECH, people thought it was a joke. But we followed due process and got the NUC’s approval. The same clarity has been brought to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, which is also making significant progress,” he said.
Governor Makinde stated that education remains a key pillar of his administration and promised continued government support to ensure the institutions meet their obligations. He added that the issue of subventions would be addressed and Primary Health Care Centres would be built on the campuses of LAUTECH and Tech-U before the end of the year, complete with ambulances.
He charged the newly-inaugurated councils to provide strategic direction and work with stakeholders to position the institutions among the best in the country. The LAUTECH council is chaired by Professor Ayodeji Omole, while the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University council is led by Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan.
