Governor Seyi Makinde has commended Afia Group Construction for its outstanding contributions to the real estate sector in Oyo State, urging the company to continue being a shining example of excellence and innovation.
The commendation came on Wednesday during the Oyo State Real Estate Conference 2025, held at the Jogor Event Centre, off Obafemi Awolowo (Liberty) Stadium Way, Ibadan.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Akin Funmilayo, represented by Mr. Abdulahi Audu, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, described Afia Group as a reputable developer that has consistently demonstrated capacity, integrity, and professionalism in the real estate industry.
Funmilayo particularly cited the ongoing Alhaji Lateef Oyelade GRA, Ring Road project, as one of the company’s remarkable achievements executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Oyo State government.
He charged the firm to sustain its developmental strides, saying, “Afia Group should continue to be a leading example in housing development and management, contributing meaningfully to the governor’s vision of providing affordable and decent housing for all residents of Oyo State.”
The Commissioner emphasized that strong collaboration between government and private investors remains vital in tackling housing deficits across the state.
“In bridging the housing gap, the state government has partnered with credible private developers to deliver affordable housing estates in line with Governor Makinde’s transformational agenda,” Funmilayo said.
He also warned against the activities of unregistered developers, which he said threaten the integrity of the sector. According to him, the government may soon introduce mandatory registration for all real estate developers and agents operating in the state to ensure compliance and transparency.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, praised Mogaji Adanla, as the Afia Group CEO, Engr. Abduljelyl Adekunle Karheem (MCIArb, MCIOB, MCABE), is fondly called, describing him as a visionary entrepreneur dedicated to transforming the housing landscape in Oyo State.
The conference, organized by the Oyo State Government in partnership with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Oyo State Chapter, and hosted by Hon. Akinsete Olakunle, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing and Urban Development, brought together top industry stakeholders, policymakers, and professionals in the housing and construction sectors.
Notable attendees included Afia Group CEO Engr. Abduljelyl Adekunle Karheem, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Hon. Akin Funmilayo, and other dignitaries.
The 2025 Oyo State Real Estate Conference focused on driving innovation, urban renewal, and sustainable growth within the property sector, highlighting the importance of synergy between public and private players to achieve inclusive urban development in the state.
