Makinde Approves Appointment of Olaide Oluwatoyin as Deputy Rector for The Polytechnic, Ibadan

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluwaseyi Abiodun MAKINDE has approved the appointment of Mrs SALAWU, Olaide Oluwatoyin as the Deputy Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

This was contained in a statement from the Institution issued by the Registrar, Mrs Modupe Theresa Fawale and signed on her behalf by the Public Relations Officer, Mogaji Soladoye Adewole.

“Following your victory at the Deputy Rectorship election held on Wednesday, 25th October, 2023 along with ratification of same by the Board of Studies and approval by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology on behalf of the Governor of Oyo State vied a letter with Reference Number C.2479/36 dated 10th January, 2024, I am pleased to convey your appointment as the Deputy Rector of the Institution for a tenure of two(2) years”, the statement noted.

In this position, the Deputy Rector will be responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administration of the Institution and as the Rector may assign duties to her.

The appointment takes retrospective effect from 1st November, 2023 and terminates on 31st October, 2025. The position of the Deputy Rector became vacant when the then Deputy Rector, Mrs Olubunmi Olubamiwa completed her two-term tenure.

Mrs Salawu Olaide Oluwatoyin(Nee Alade), an Indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State was born over 50 years ago. She joined the services of The Polytechnic, Ibadan on 20th September, 1993 as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Mrs Salawu rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Lecturer, the highest academic position attainable within the Polytechnic system in October, 2010.

She had held several positions of responsibilities within the Institution which ranged from Head of Department of Mathematics and Statistics to the Dean Faculty of Science. She was Dean Faculty of Science from 2013 to 2017. She was also the Chairman, Sports Advisory Committee of the Institution from 2017 to 2021.

Mrs Salawu attended Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ibadan from 1979 to 1984 and cut her teeth in tertiary education at The Polytechnic, Ibadan from 1985 to 1987 where she obtained a National Diploma Certificate in Statistics.

The New Deputy Rector proceeded to The University of Ilorin from 1988 to 1991 where she bagged B.Sc. In Statistics. She was also at The University of Ibadan where she obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Economics in 1995. She also holds a 1995 Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Statistics from the University of Ibadan.

She is currently a Doctoral Student in Statistics at The University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Mrs Salawu is happily married to Mr Isiaka Salawu, a retired Chief Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, The Polytechnic, Ibadan and they are blessed with children.
