The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has announced a slight adjustment in its plan to conduct party primaries aimed at nominating chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the February, 2017 Local Government elections in the state.

The primaries are now to hold on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 as against the Friday date earlier publicized.

In a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, APC submitted that the development was necessitated by the need to take full advantage of the extension of deadline for the submission of candidates’ list by participating political parties as announced by the State Independent Electoral Commission.

“The new date of Tuesday next has been chosen for ‘technical and political’ reasons as this became imperative in view of the extension granted by OYSIEC to all political parties participating in the February council polls. On this we could only plead for the understanding of our party members particularly all aspirants and their supporters.

“Notwithstanding the slight shift, we urge all aspirants and their supporters as well as the general public to keep faith with the leadership of the APC in the state. Oyo APC is poised to conduct free, fair and credible primaries in line with Article 20 of the Constitution of our Party and this would not be compromised as we remain the party to beat in this particular election and other future elections.” The party said.
