The lawmaker, representing Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire Federal Constituency, Segun Ogunwuyi, has stressed on the need for students in tertiary institutions to embrace Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their academic pursuits to remain relevant and meet the 21st century teaching and learning requirements.
The lawmaker, who spoke at the official commissioning of the ICT Resource centre donated to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso noted that ICT has empowered numerous people and provided intellectual leverage required in various ventures, adding that it has one of the longest value – chain as a profession.
“The illiterates of tomorrow are not those who cannot read and write, but those who can not use the computer. ICT is essential in all sectors and has one of the longest value chain as a profession”, the lawmaker said.
Ogunwuyi in a press statement signed by his press secretary,Peter Ayoade also observed that ICT has become crucial to effective teaching and learning process, averring that students are left with no other option than to embrace the new teaching methodology rather than taking a risk of becoming irrelevant in current global policy.
Speaking further, the lawmaker reiterated his administration’s commitment to educational development and youths’ empowerment, assuring that the new policies will boost students performance.
Ogunwuyi said, “he has expanded himself to cover education, health and community services. He did not concentrate on capital projects alone, but covering many areas which brought us here”.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the member, House Committee on Telecommunications, Honourable Ogunwuyi informed that the project was facilitated to improve the core functions of teaching, learning and research application through ICT.
He stressed that the centre was in tune with the vision of his administration towards developing ICT.
Ogunwuyi explained, “this project will serve as backbone for teaching, learning and research. We have also facilitated this type of project and others across the areas in the town”.
The lawmaker enjoined the management of the Lautech ICT department and the students to make judicious use of the ICT centre.
Dr. Arulogun Tayo, Lautech ICT department’s director who was duly represented by Mr. Olajide Taiwo (the auditor of the institution’s ICT department) and Mr. Ajibade Joel (the Senior Technical Officer of the institution’s ICT department) maintained that the ICT centre, facilitated by Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi, representing Ogbomoso North/South and Oriire Federal Constituency, would contribute hugely to human capital development of the institution.
The Senior Technical Officer of the institution’s ICT department, Mr. Ajibade Joel, however commended the lawmaker, Honourable Ogunwuyi whom he described as “epitome of services” for facilitating projects that has direct impact on the people.
The mixed gathering event comprised of intellectuals, politicians, civil societies and so many distinguished personalities in attendance.
