The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has expressed deep concern over the reported death of one of its students, Mr. Ridwan Oladipupo, a 300-level student of Agricultural Engineering.

In a press release signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka O. Balogun, the university revealed that it was unofficially informed of the student’s demise after he was declared missing. Ridwan was last seen on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, when he reportedly left his off-campus hostel on Lawyer Ahmed Street, Ogbomoso, stating that he was going out to study. He did not disclose his destination.

According to the statement, on June 25, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs received a call from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owode Division, alerting the university about a corpse discovered in front of Nurudeen Grammar School along Under-G Road in Ogbomoso.

Attempts by the Police and the Student Affairs Division to immediately identify the body were unsuccessful, as no students or area residents could confirm the identity of the deceased. The body was later deposited at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Mortuary.

It was not until Sunday, June 29, 2025, that the deceased’s father reportedly visited the hostel in the company of a police officer, seeking information about his son’s whereabouts. Despite the growing concern, the university noted that it is yet to receive any formal report or representation from the family.

The University stressed that the matter is currently being handled by the Nigeria Police Force at Owode Division and affirmed that it would not make any further comment so as not to jeopardize ongoing investigations.

LAUTECH reiterated that, although it operates a non-residential policy, it collaborates with all security agencies who conduct nightly surveillance across student-populated areas off-campus to ensure the safety of its students.

The institution conveyed its condolences and assured that it remains committed to student welfare and safety.
