The burial rites for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Frederick Akinloye Iyanda Owolabi Olakunlehin, have been  released

The revered monarch, who passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 8, following a week-long series of events in his honour.

According to a programme of events obtained by our reporter, the obsequies will commence on Monday, August 4, 2025, and run through Friday, August 8, 2025.

The events include a range of sporting competitions and religious services, reflecting Oba Olakunlehin’s lifelong commitment to unity, youth development, and service to the people of Ibadan and Oyo State.

    Olubadan Olakunlehin Football Cup (Semi-Finals)
    Venue: Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan
    Time: 2:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 6, 2025
    Table Tennis Tournament (Finals)
    Venue: Table Tennis Hall, Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan
    Time: 10:00 a.m.

    Olubadan Olakunlehin Football Cup Final
    Venue: Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan
    Time: 3:00 p.m.

Final Obsequies

    Date: Thursday, August 7, 2025
    Venue: Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan
    Time: 4:00 p.m.
  • Funeral Service
    Date: Friday, August 8, 2025
    Venue: Cathedral of Saint Peters, Aremo, Ibadan
    Time: 10:00 a.m.

The late monarch is survived by children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters, who—alongside the entire city of Ibadan—are set to celebrate his life of impactful leadership, integrity, and humility.

As preparations intensify for the burial ceremonies, tributes have continued to pour in from across the country, with dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents expected to attend the final rites of passage.

Oba Olakunlehin’s reign will be remembered for its wisdom, dedication to peace, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Ibadanland.
