The Lagos State Government has announced the cancellation of the 2025 edition of the Greater Lagos Fiesta, earlier scheduled to hold on December 31, 2025.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, following the approval of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the statement, the Governor directed that instead of the usual Greater Lagos Fiesta, also known as the Countdown 2026, residents of the state should devote the period to personal prayers for the nation, Lagos State and its people.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to pray for the continued prosperity of the state, quality leadership, peace, productivity and the general wellbeing of residents.
He also wished Lagosians a happy and prosperous New Year, expressing optimism that 2026 holds great promise for both Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Governor further called on residents to continue to live together in peace and harmony, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to improved service delivery.
“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear State a happy and prosperous New Year. I want to assure you all that the year 2026 will be a better year for us in the State, as our administration is determined to work twice as hard to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
