In a demonstration of its commitment to academic excellence, the Lagos State Government has awarded N10 million to the best graduating student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The recipient, Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu, a first-class graduate of Biochemistry, received the monetary prize during a presentation ceremony held at the Office of the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, reiterated the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s resolve to support scholarship, research, and academic distinction across state-owned tertiary institutions. He noted that the reward was part of the government’s non-discriminatory policy of recognising excellence, regardless of a student’s state of origin.
“Lagos State remains committed to ensuring that graduates of our institutions are globally competitive,” Sule said. “We celebrate excellence and reward merit to encourage others.”
Hon. Sule further urged Miss Nwosu to remain steadfast in her academic pursuits and serve as an ambassador and inspiration to other students across Lagos State tertiary institutions.
In her remarks, Miss Nwosu, who hails from Aniocha in Delta State, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government. Accompanied by her mother, she pledged to make prudent use of the funds by investing in her continued education.
“I am truly grateful for this recognition and support,” she said. “Lagos State has shown that it values and nurtures talent, regardless of origin. I hope to make the most of this opportunity and inspire others.”
She also commended the state government’s inclusive approach and encouraged fellow students to strive for academic excellence in return for the state’s investment in their futures.
The N10 million award forms part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s broader educational initiative aimed at fostering academic brilliance and supporting students across Lagos State’s institutions of higher learning.
