Oyo State Labour Veterans Association has elected new executive that will steer the affairs the affairs of the union.
The union which was established in 2021 to foster unity among the retired civil and public servants in the state To Forster unity with past labour leaders in the state as well as an advisory body to the existing Labour Industrial Union in the State..
At the meeting which was held at NUT resource centre Samonda, Ibadan the house resolved to convert the interim executive into substantive one and fix the vacant position.
The procedure was conducted by a committee led Baale Alamu Oloyede Ibikunle, a former NLC chairman in the state after which the elected executives were sworn in
Comrade Ibrahim Bolomope and former labour leader and ex- Member of Oyo state House of Assembly was elected as President while comrade Ademola Adewuyi was elected as his deputy.
Also a former National Vice President of Nigerian Union of Journalist NUJ, Comrade Cosmos Olalekan Oni was elected as the secretary while Comrade Gbenga Olabiyo is the Assistant secretary
Other elected officials includes, Mrs Kehinde Aremu ( Treasurer), Comrade Wale Araba (Financial Secretary), Com FM Babatunde ( Auditor), Comrade Moyo Olutuase,( PRO), Comrade Yemisi Malomo( Welfare Officer) and Comrade Olu Abiala(Legal Adviser)
The president of the Association, comrade Ibrahim Bolomope in his brief remark said the association was formed as a platform to generate ideas that will guide the younger generations in the services and to make members happy
” In this system we must play our role as a privilege elite class by taking a decicion that will positively influenced and encouraged those coming behind us”
While assuring members that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him he also urged members to coperate with the executive inorder to take the association to a greater height
Representatives of Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Trade Union Congress, Nigerian Union of Pensioners NUP, Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT and other executive graced the occassion in their separate remark commended the veterans for being a leading light in the labour union in the state
TUC Chairman Comrade Emannuel Ogundiran in his speech said ” Rest they say is sweet after labour, but to our veterans present here today, i say you are still much more needed, Nothing compares to experience, especially from elders of repute. Labour movement has come a long way in Oyo state and most of the veterans here today have sacrificed to make the labour movement in Oyo state what is it today
Also comrade Segun Abatan, Chairman Nigerian Union of Pensioneers in Oyo state who was represented by Comrade Disu Akinpelu congratulated the new exco and urged the to continue to advise the younger generations in the labour union so that they will not derail from the vision of the founding fathers
