The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old Islamic teacher, Abdulrahman Bello, for allegedly killing and dismembering Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education.
Lawal, 25, was reportedly lured to Bello’s residence after they connected on Facebook. According to sources, Bello invited her to his house via a phone call on February 10, 2025.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that investigations had commenced. She revealed that Lawal’s father, Ibrahim A. Lawal, had reported her missing at the Oja-Oba Police Division on February 11.
“The Kwara Police Command is aware of the gruesome killing of Miss Yetunde H. Lawal. On 11/02/2025, at about 1800 hours, a missing person report was filed by her father. Detectives immediately swung into action, tracked her number, and arrested a suspect. Exhibits were recovered, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigations,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
It was gathered that Lawal was last seen on February 10 after attending a naming ceremony. She reportedly received a phone call—later traced to Bello—before she went missing.
Bello, who resides in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin, was arrested after police tracked Lawal’s last known contact. Initially, he denied any knowledge of her whereabouts but later confessed that she had died in his house from an asthma attack. However, during a search of his residence, the police reportedly discovered Lawal’s dismembered body parts in a bowl.
Further investigations are ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full details of the crime.
