Governors of Nigeria’s South-West region are meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, for an emergency session aimed at tackling the rising influx of bandits and criminal activities in the zone.
The meeting brings together Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti). Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is represented by his deputy.
While official details of the deliberations have not been released, a government source familiar with the agenda revealed that the session focuses on “addressing rising security concerns, fast-tracking infrastructural development, and strengthening regional integration under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria.”
The governors are also expected to review collaborative security measures, including the operations of the Amotekun Corps, with a view to enhancing its effectiveness in the face of emerging security challenges.
