
The Ijebu Local Government has formally notified the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to begin the process of presenting qualified candidates for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
The notice was issued in a letter dated 2nd December 2025, and addressed to the head of the ruling house, following the demise of the revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCFR, who was the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
According to the letter signed by Hon. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo, Secretary to the Local Government for the Executive Chairman, the directive complies with the request received from the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, led by Otunba Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi (Chairman), Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba (Deputy Chairman), and Prof. Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf (Vice Chairman).
The local government emphasized that, in line with the laws, customs, and rotational arrangements guiding the Awujale succession, it is the turn of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to present a candidate.
The ruling house is required to submit the names of nominated candidate(s) within 14 days from the date of the letter through the prescribed traditional procedure.
The notice also highlighted that as part of established succession rites, the Ogbeni Odi would officially carry the Awujale’s Staff of Office on Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, marking the next phase of the interregnum process.
The Executive Chairman advised the ruling house to conduct the selection peacefully, transparently, and in line with the traditions of Ijebuland.
The letter was jointly endorsed by members of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council.
