The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government area of Oyo State, Hon. Sheriff Adeyemi Adeojo, has taken a move towards increasing the Internally Generated Revenue IGR of the council, having repaired an abandoned excavator for commercial purpose.
Adeojo noted that the machine will be available and rented out for prospective users who want to use it for different purposes at an affordable rate thereby yielding income for the council.
He added that the initiative became necessary owing to the dwindling revenue allocation to the council.
While speaking to journalists on the development, on Thursday, Adeojo thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for the opportunity given to him to oversee the affairs of the council, saying that a special unit, for proper management, will be created to collect the revenue on behalf of the council and remit into the LG coffers.
He said: “For us, in the local government, we want to increase our IGR and create more opportunities for revenues to come into our purse and this is one of the ways we think we can achieve that. We need to provide more democratic dividends at the grassroots level.
“We will be renting it out for those who want to make use of it at an affordable rate and be getting money in return. We will set up a special unit that will be responsible for collection of the money and be remitting into our coffers. So, we are certainly committed to taking advantage of this huge potential and opportunity, instead of wasting such vital resources that can create wealth.”
At the event were the HLGA, Dr Agnes Ojo; Supervisor for Works, Mr Musbaudeen; Director of works Mr Ogundele Dauda and a host of others.
Earlier, Adeojo called on the National Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE), during a party aimed at celebrating ‘exceptional workers’, to support the re-election of the state governor as a result of his unprecedented achievements in the state.
Those who participated at the event include all the Heads of Departments; Leader of the House, Elder Adetokun; Supervisor Alhaji Sule Agoayo and all executive members of the NULGE.
