The Polytechnic, Ibadan on friday celebrated its Fifty Years anniversary.
The Polytechnic Ibadan was established on the 7th of August, 1970 and has since produced men of great influence in the society.
Chairman, Golden Celebration Planning Committee, Mr. Femi Ipadeola in his welcome address noted that the Rector, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi looks into making sure The Polytechnic, Ibadan becomes the reference point of robotic and artificial intelligence in Africa, maintaining that the academic year of the institution for 2020/2021 is aimed at repositioning, redirecting and rebranding.
Ipadeola added that a lot of identity has been attached to the great citadel of learning but the most acceptable is “The Polytechnic, Ibadan which has its Short form as” TPI”.
The Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi in his speech appreciated the Chairman of The Polytechnic, Ibadan Governing Council for making the celebration a success.
National President Alumni Association of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Prof. Akande Lawal who studied Architecture in the Institution 36 years ago decries the discrimination of Polytechnic graduates to University graduates.
Chairman of The Polytechnic, Ibadan Governing Council, Prof. Kunle Akinyemi in his speech urges the Student Union body to allow the Aluta Continua movement translate into peace and progress in the institution.
Akinyemi added that the committee’s plan is to rebrand the institution to make sure it stands out among peers in the country.
Also on attendance are Former Majority leader of the House of Assembly, Hon. Taoheed Ayorinde, The registrar, Mrs. Module Fawale, Deputy Registrars, Dean of Faculties, Directors, Head of Departments, Accountants, Student Union Representatives, Alumni members and other Academic and Non Academic staffs.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan is a great citadel of learning that birth the creation of many other Polytechnics which were formerly a stalite campuses of the institution – Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, Okeogun Polytechnic, Saki, Esa Oke Polytechnic, and Osun State Polytechnic, Iree were all carved out from the Polytechnic Ibadan.
Notable Nigerians including Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba AdeyeyrMinister for Interior and former Governor of Osun State, Engr. Rauf Aregbesola, Former Governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Former Lawmaker, Hon. Awoleye Dada were products of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Entertainers including Nollywood Actress Toyin Aimakhu, Superstar Actress, Mercy Aigbe, Legendary Fuji Musician, Saheed Osupa, Star Female Gospel Musician, Tope Alabi also pass through the great institution.
