Dr. Dexter Femi Akin Alamu has emerged as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming by-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, scheduled for August 16, 2025.
The primary election, held on Saturday at the ADC Secretariat in Mokola, Ibadan, saw Dr. Akin Alamu emerge unopposed after his co-contender, Mrs. Olaide Aderinto, stepped down in the interest of party unity.
The exercise was conducted by the Chairman of the ADC Election Committee from Abuja, Barrister Emeka Igwu, and was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Mr. Omishile Kehinde, as well as security agencies.
Speaking during the event, Mrs. Aderinto stated that her decision to withdraw from the race was in the best interest of the party. She pledged her full support to Dr. Akin Alamu during the campaign period.
Barrister Igwu affirmed Dr. Akin Alamu’s candidacy, which was unanimously endorsed by delegates present at the primary.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Akin Alamu expressed gratitude to Mrs. Aderinto for her statesmanship and to the party leadership for their confidence in him. He vowed to work tirelessly to secure victory for ADC in the August 16 by-election.
He also extended appreciation to the ADC Electoral Committee, as well as the Oyo State chapter of the party led by Chairman Alhaji Yinka Olona, Secretary Mr. Oluyemi Abiola, and Publicity Secretary Barrister Bimpe Adelowo.
Dr. Akin Alamu called on all party members to unite and work together toward a successful election outcome. If elected into the House of Representatives, he pledged to sponsor a social welfare bill that would provide benefits to Nigerian citizens.
INEC representative Mr. Omishile commended the ADC for conducting a credible and guideline-compliant primary process.
