The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Chief . Sunday Dare, has said that his ambition to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election is currently in abeyance.
Speaking during a recent television appearance, the former Minister of Youth and Sports Development stated that while he has not ruled out future political engagement, he is not actively pursuing the governorship seat at the moment.
When asked about his preferred candidate for the 2027 polls, Dare said: “I know more than 11 people who are interested in becoming the governor of Oyo State, and most of them are from the APC. The best thing is to let them move around, campaign, and if Bayo Adelabu picks the party’s ticket, I will support him.”
The Agbaakin of Ogbomoso also emphasized the need for political equity across the state. He noted that while Ibadan has produced governors for over 22 years, other politically viable zones such as Oke Ogun, Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa must begin to assert themselves.
When you have a particular part of the state producing Governors for over 22 years and the other components are there equally politically strong, Oke Ogun, Ogbomoso Ibarapa, you will expect that at some point there will be a contest “ and in 2027 we are going to see that contest come up. Of course everybody will get an equal opportunity ,You can’t deny Ibadan, they have produced governors for 22 years now so for Ogbomoso zone and Oke Ogun to produce next governor, they must organize, mobilize, and demonstrate political superiority in ideas and structure. It’s time for the governorship to move around,” he concluded.
