The house of Representative has reiterated the need for a legal framework that would guide the broadcasting industry for an effective service delivery.
The speaker Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this in his opening remarks at the public hearing put together by the committee on Information, National orientation, Ethics and Values.
Stakeholders across the Information sector in Nigeria converged before the House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values to submit their positions on two Legislations seeking to establish, regulate, and conduct the practice of Broadcasting profession in Nigeria.
The committee led by Rep. Odebunmi Olusegun from Oyo state says the responsibility of the parliament in building the nation does not exclude the media industry, hence the need for the hearing which seeks to gather the opinions of relevant stakeholders to enable the house take informed decision on the Bills.
In his submission the vice president broadcasting organization of Nigeria and the DG FRCN Dr Mansur Liman said the legislations that would promote professionalism in the industry.
On his part veteran broadcaster and former DG of the NTA Tony Iredia who emphasized the importance of media in the society stressed the need to replace obsolete legislations in line with current day realities.
