The Patriotism Now Movement (PNM) has raised alarm over the increasing cases of bisexual and LGBTQ related activities across Nigeria.
PNM described the trend as a growing threat to the nation’s cultural values, family structures, and overall national integrity.
A statement by the National President of PNM, Benedict Wealth, urged Federal, state and local governments, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the general public to unite and take urgent action in addressing what he referred to as a “deepening moral crisis.”
PNM expressed deep concern over the rising incidences of LGBTQ activities, particularly among vulnerable groups such as primary and secondary school students.
The movement stressed the need for immediate, coordinated, and strategic responses to what it sees as an encroachment on the foundational values of African and Nigerian culture.
The group referenced a specific case involving two teachers, Falade Olasunkanmi Mary and Gladys Ajayi of Brilliant Group of School, Akure, Ondo State, who were allegedly caught engaging in Lesbian acts on the school premises in November 2023.
“This incident is a direct affront to our cultural and moral values. We have learned that one of the suspects escaped justice, but rest assured, we are committed to following through with this case until all those involved are brought to book under the full weight of the law prohibiting LGBTQ activities in Nigeria.”
According to the President, “We can no longer afford to treat LGBTQ matters as private or harmless. It is a criminal act under Nigerian law, and its increasing prevalence has become a national emergency.”
PNM called for the strict enforcement of the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, insisting that Nigeria must remain firm in upholding its moral and cultural standards.
“LGBTQ activities not only harm individuals, but they also threaten the very fabric of our society,” Benedict emphasized.
The Patriotism Now Movement however reaffirmed its commitment to building a just, cultured, and morally upright Nigeria, where citizens especially children can be protected from influences that contradict the nation’s traditional values.
