Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, following the announcement of his passing at the age of 82.

Jonathan, who joined other sympathizers in mourning the statesman, also visited the Nigerian House in London where he met with members of the Federal Government delegation. The delegation, in London to accompany the remains of the late President to Nigeria for burial, includes Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
In an emotional tribute, Jonathan described the late President as “a notable leader, patriot, and elder statesman who served our beloved nation as both a military Head of State and democratically elected President, to the best of his abilities.”
He commended Buhari for his courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national service, adding that the former president “was deeply admired across the strata of society for his decency, integrity, and exemplary life of service.”
“President Buhari will be remembered as a courageous leader and a committed public servant who made considerable contributions towards the peace and progress of our dear nation,” Jonathan said.
Reflecting on his personal loss, Jonathan noted, “In his passing, Nigeria has lost one of its foremost leaders, and I have lost a respected colleague and elder. His legacy will continue to endure in the hearts of all who value sacrifice, integrity, perseverance and devotion to national ethos.”
On behalf of his family and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, he extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s immediate family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.
He concluded with prayers for the repose of the late President’s soul, saying, “May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”
