The 2017 World Humanitarian Day Commemoration took place on Saturday 19th August, 2017. This global celebration was the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly which took place in 2008. Gani Adams Foundation, a humanitarian and non-governmental organization observed the day in Lagos.

The events which took place at Conference Hall of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry has a theme “Protection of Civilians” The former Commissioner of Health in Ogun State, Dr. Kunle lziaq Salako was the Chairman at the occasion. HRH, The Onifako of Ifako (Obawole l )was the Royal father of the day. Other eminent personalities at the occasion included; Hon. Wasiu Agbaje-Olomu, Legislative Leader, lkorodu West LCDA; Mr. Bola Olanrewaju, Country representative of African Child Project; Leaders from various Non- governmental organizations; etc.

The founder and Chief Promoter of Gani Adams Foundation, Otunba (Dr.) Gani Adams who was recently conferred with a chieftaincy title of Agba’kin of Osogboland was ably represented by the Senior Programme Manager of the foundation, Deacon Obatungashe Israel Adebayo and Olumide Ojelade. Obatungashe In his message, said Otunba Gani Adams reiterated his commitment and determination to always be responsive to the plight of less privileged in the society. He informed the gathering that, the foundation spent over four million every year on various empowerment towards total eradication of poverty in our society. He therefore, called on government to be more responsible in its statutory duties in providing basic needs for her people.
A well researched and thought provoking paper was presented by Barrister Ahmed Dada Abass.
The high point of the occasion was the presentation of food and gift items worth over two million naira to some Orphanage homes.

Among the beneficiaries were; S.O.S Children Village, lsolo; Royal Diamond Home, Ojodu; Red-Cross, lkeja, etc. Guests were entertained by cultural group of Olokun Festivals.
