A wave of compassion swept through Ogbomoso yesterday as the Funmi Adewole Foundation officially commenced its five-day free medical outreach, bringing health care and hope to hundreds of residents.
The foundation was founded in honor of Funmi Adewole who, as a nurse practitioner, was committed to the cause of healthcare in Africa. Providing free basic health care to underserved communities across Africa, supporting quality education in the continent through an education trust fund, and promoting cancer awareness initiatives in the United States and Africa
According to the organizers, more than 620 people received medical check-ups, consultations, essential medications, and health education on the first day of the program.
The outreach, which features a team of about 150 doctors, local healthcare providers, and volunteers, is designed to deliver free and quality medical services to underserved communities across Ogbomosoland.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), described the outreach as “a beautiful dawn of compassion and service in Ogbomoso.” He commended the Funmi Adewole Foundation for its humanitarian spirit and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting health and wellbeing as part of the 25-Year Development Plan for Ogbomosoland.
“This initiative is far more than a medical program — it is an expression of love, a reflection of the Ogbomoso spirit, and a vital step toward our collective vision of a healthier and stronger community,” the monarch said.
The Soun also extended appreciation to the doctors and volunteers whose selfless service, he noted, embodies the best of humanity.
The outreach continues through the week, offering hope and healing to more residents across the ancient city.
