The embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on the people of the state to remain calm and law-abiding amid the ongoing political crisis.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Fubara assured Rivers residents that his administration remains committed to constitutional order and the rule of law, despite facing challenges from the State House of Assembly.

“I address you today with a deep sense of responsibility and calm, as we navigate this unfortunate moment in our state’s political history,” he said.

Fubara noted that since assuming office, his government has prioritized the protection of lives and property while ensuring the progress of the state. He emphasized that his actions have been guided by his constitutional oath of office and a strong sense of duty.

Referring to the peace efforts initiated by President Bola Tinubu, Fubara said he implemented the agreed terms in good faith, including reinstating commissioners who had earlier resigned. Additionally, he confirmed compliance with the Supreme Court judgment aimed at restoring normalcy in the state.

“These steps were taken not for personal gains but to foster peace, unity, and stability in our dear state,” he stated.

However, the governor accused the Rivers State House of Assembly of frustrating peace efforts, making governance difficult. He insisted that despite the political crisis, government operations have continued uninterrupted, with salaries paid and projects ongoing.

“Above all, Rivers State is safe, secure, and peaceful under our watch,” Fubara reassured.

Calling for continued peace and patience, he pledged to engage relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure the state’s continued progress.

“We have always been a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” he concluded.

The crisis in Rivers State escalated following disagreements between Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly, leading to tensions within the government. While efforts have been made to resolve the situation, political instability persists.
