The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, held its annual Special Marshals Sectoral Workshop in Osogbo with the theme “Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals Operations.”
The event, which took place at the Osun State Staff Development Centre, Abere, also featured the induction of new Special Marshals aimed at boosting the numerical strength and operational capacity of the volunteer arm of the Corps in the state.
Declaring the workshop open, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Transport (Cabinet), Hon. Yakub Moshood Adejare, commended the leadership of the FRSC for its professionalism and innovation under the Corps Marshal, Shehu Usman Mohammed, mni. He praised the Osun Sector Command and the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Joseph W. Toby, for their dedication and commitment to road safety.
Adeleke, who is also the Patron of the Osun State Special Marshals, lauded the volunteer officers for their patriotism, community engagement, and consistent efforts in promoting public enlightenment, patrol support, and advocacy for safer roads.
In his keynote address, Assistant Corps Marshal Toby, who oversees Zone RS11 (Osun, Oyo, and Ondo States), said the workshop’s theme aligns with the FRSC’s vision of achieving a crash-free road environment in Nigeria. He urged participants to take the training seriously and adopt the lessons to enhance discipline, security awareness, and collaboration with emergency agencies.
The Osun Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, emphasized that the Special Marshals play a crucial role in supporting the FRSC’s operations through volunteer service, community outreach, and enforcement support. He encouraged them to use the workshop as a platform to share experiences, improve risk management, and strengthen synergy with the Regular Marshals.
Earlier, the Osun State Coordinator of Special Marshals, Elder Hezekiah O. Aluko, noted that the workshop was timely given the increasing hostility some drivers exhibit toward FRSC personnel. He stressed the need for improved safety and security measures to protect operatives during field operations.
Among those newly inducted as Special Marshals were Engr. Akinmade Oladeji Akintoye, Member, Osun State Revenue Committee; Alhaji Adesina Tajudeen Okandeji, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of General Services; Mr. Atolagbe Lanre Aderemi, Deputy Accountant-General of Osun State; Mr. Olusoji Wojuade, Permanent Secretary (Cabinet); and Mr. Muyiwa Olojede, CEO of Primus Expression, Osogbo.
The FRSC said the 2025 Sectoral Workshop is expected to enhance the commitment, discipline, and national service orientation of Special Marshals toward achieving safer roads and reducing crashes across Osun State.
